ABOUT
SARAH RAIN HAMMONDSarah Rain Hammond is a Louisiana native who received her Bachelor in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting from the University of Mississippi in 2016, and now works as a free-lance illustrator and graphic designer in Baton Rouge. She focuses on tackling darker topics such as death and anxieties of living by creating a space that allows them to be an open conversation. Her inspirations and imagery is drawn from her personal experiences and life growing up in both Louisiana and Mississippi.
She enjoys portraits and using an unlimited amount of medias and materials in her work like woodcut printmaking, painting, ink illustration, and digital illustration. |
"My pieces focus on identity, emotional drives, and memories. In my pieces, I aspire to grasp a better understanding of these intangible themes by creating self-reflective characters and placing them in surreal settings. The vibrant colors, patterns, and lighthearted, playful imagery acting within these environments are influenced by my South Louisiana heritage and help me approach darker topics with an easy-going atmosphere. Being able to control and define the imagery used in these spaces offers not only a means of understanding these broad, relatable human themes, but also, offers further insight to me own personal experiences that I am still processing."
