“An Eye to the Past Can Help Guide the Future”

Client: Passion Projects

I create mock/passion projects as a means for challenging for myself creatively, and this one is for the New York Times article titled “An Eye to the Past Can Help Guide the Future.”

I wanted a way to show how past pain is necessary for future growth. The right hand symbolizes the past protecting a flower (the future growth) from the harmful rays. As you scan up, you see the cause for the rays which is same hand but now, with a burnt hole in it burning through the past hand.
This burnt hole symbolizes the pain and sacrifice of the past, illustrating how the hand has been impacted and scarred by the challenges it has faced.

This all comes together to show the
idea that past struggles and pain serve as both a shield and a guide for future growth.
